The St. Marys Community Public Library is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. the St. Marys Theater and Grand Opera House will be hosting a movie presentation featuring “To Kill a Mockingbird” followed by a discussion of the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by author Harper Lee. "Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humor the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence, and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much. "To Kill A Mockingbird" became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film. Ten free books will be made available through a grant from 3-Rivers Credit Union Foundation and can be picked up at the library. The library will also have copies available for check out prior to the movie and book discussion. For more information, contact The Grand Opera House and Theater at 119 W.
