Details:
This year’s Summer Field Trip will take us to the San Mateo History Museum in Redwood City, housed in the old County Courthouse. Built in 1910 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building features one of California’s largest stained-glass domes.
The Museum exhibits offer an opportunity to discover the San Francisco Peninsula’s past from the original Native American inhabitants to the Silicon Valley innovators of today. The museum’s exhibits are innovative as well as informative.
We will meet in the rotunda at 10 a.m., then move to Courtroom A for a brief introduction to the museum and to the role history museums can play in fostering civic community through active participation, social trust, and commitment to the common good. Afterward, we will have time to explore the museum on our own.
