The Downtown Business District (DBD) was established in 2001 as a special services taxing district encompassing the majority of Main Street and adjacent commercial streets in Downtown Middletown. Governed by a Board of Commissioners elected by property owners, the DBD focuses on beautification projects, fostering cooperative relationships with municipal leaders and the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, and promoting the district through marketing, recruitment, and advertising initiatives. The DBD also manages the official Downtown Middletown website. The organization's mission is to enhance the downtown area as a vibrant and economically viable place, emphasizing commerce, culture, and community. They aim to catalyze long-term growth and make downtown a more interesting place for visiting, living, and doing business. The DBD also offers a marketing package for businesses outside the district to participate in promotional activities.
