Get tickets here!Whether you've read The Odyssey before, are looking to tackle the classic for the first time with the support of other bookish folks, or just missed out on the fun of our winter Iliad group, our spring reading group is for you! Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey is the first published English translation by a woman. She preserves the verse of the original while aiming to make it more accessible to modern readers and eliminate the sexism that crept into earlier translations. Miller's Circe reimagines the classic myth of Circe with a feminist lens, bringing Circe's full emotional life into the light. We'll discuss these approaches to the classic tales over tea & nibbles! What is a reading group? It's a little more structured than a book club and way less formal than a class. We read the text and learn from each other through discussion! We are bundling tickets for all three sessions together, as the discussions will build on prior sessions. We are also offering a bundle that includes copies of both books with your tickets to all three sessions. The planned discussion for each session will be: May 31: Books 1-12 of The Odyssey June 28: Books 13-24 of The Odyssey July 26: Circe Please note we are specifically discussing the Emily Wilson translation of The Odyssey, so if you don't purchase the books + discussion bundle , be sure that is the edition you get to work from!
