Weymouth Woods - Sandhills Nature Preserve

Weymouth Woods - Sandhills Nature Preserve is a North Carolina state park dedicated to conserving and protecting the unique longleaf pine forest ecosystem of the Sandhills region. It offers visitors an opportunity to experience these forests, which once covered vast areas of the southeastern United States. The preserve features towering, centuries-old longleaf pines, diverse plant and animal species including the red-cockaded woodpecker and purple pitcher plant, and a network of trails for hiking and horseback riding. Environmental education programs and ranger-led hikes are available, and the visitor center includes exhibits on the natural history and cultural significance of the longleaf pine forest. Prescribed fires are used as a management tool to maintain the health of this ecosystem.
