Duello Armizare Level 1 Rapier & Longsword Instructor Intensive

The Level 1 Instructor Intensive is the entry point into the Duello Armizare instructor pathway. Over five focused days, students train the foundations of Italian rapier and longsword while developing a clear framework for body mechanics, blade control, tactical decision-making, effective drilling, skill retention, and coaching.
The week includes 20 hours of rapier, 20 hours of longsword, and 10 hours of learning methodology. Students may focus on one weapon or train both. Taking both weapons is strongly recommended because Duello Armizare approaches rapier, sidesword, and longsword as connected branches of the broader Italian tradition of arms. The weapons are distinct, but the underlying principles of posture, movement, measure, cover, line, tempo, control, and tactical response inform one another across the system. Previous experience of a weapon system is not necessary for full participation.
For Chicago Swordplay Guild students, the intensive is intended to support your existing training in Armizare rather than replace or compete with it. CSG has its own instructor development pathway and its own branch of Armizare. This intensive is designed to complement that work by giving students another structured lens on Italian swordplay and by helping connect material across medieval and renaissance weapons traditions.
The Duello Armizare program is compatible with the International Armizare Society approach and can help CSG students deepen their technical understanding, broaden their training tools, and enter or support the CSG instructor mentorship pathway. Mentorship hours completed with CSG can also be counted toward Duello Armizare certification requirements.
For practitioners outside CSG, the intensive provides a structured entry point into the Duello Armizare system and certification pathway, including post-course examination and assessment toward Apprentice / Green Cord and Level 1 Instructor certification.
