The Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established in 1985 to revitalize the Village of Lake Orion's downtown district. It operates as an accredited Main Street America Community, utilizing the Main Street Approach to downtown management. The DDA's mission is to enhance the economic potential and preserve the historical character of the downtown district, fostering prosperity and a strong sense of connection for all. They achieve this through various initiatives including infrastructure improvements, public space design, property revitalization, historic building rehabilitation, business recruitment and retention programs, safety and maintenance, and marketing and special events. The DDA is funded primarily through Tax Increment Financing (TIF), capturing property tax revenues within the district to reinvest in public improvements and development projects. Their vision is a lively downtown where all ages can gather for experiences in unique businesses, community spaces, and historic and natural treasures. The DDA focuses on four key aspects: design, organization, promotion, and economic vitality, aiming to create an environment where businesses, organizations, and people can thrive.
