Developed in 2004, it was inspired by Lakewood's retail history and aimed to revitalize the area, succeeding the former Villa Italia Shopping Center. Belmar spans 22 city blocks and features a central plaza that hosts seasonal events, such as summer concerts and a winter ice-skating rink. The district offers a diverse mix of over 80 food vendors, retail stores, including national brands and local boutiques, as well as art galleries and services. It is considered the "downtown" of Lakewood and provides a popular destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment, with ongoing events and activities throughout the year, often managed by Bridge33 Capital.
