The Headquarters Library, the largest location in the Alachua County Library District, is nestled in downtown Gainesville at 401 East University Avenue. Hidden behind majestic oak trees and the Sweetwater Branch Creek, it marks the county's original public library, having relocated several times before settling here in 1991. Established from a 1903 call for donations, the library has evolved significantly, featuring a new 78,000 sq. ft. structure that opened in 1991, offering meeting rooms and internet access, all while honoring its rich history.
