Details:
York County Audubon is pleased to announce that we’ll be hosting a bird walk each month in a different location. Our June walk in our tour of different habitats will take us to the Kennebunk Plains, a unique habitat that supports a variety of birds and plants that are not found anywhere else in the state. This includes Maine’s largest colony of Grasshopper Sparrows, and healthy populations of Upland Sandpipers and Vesper Sparrows. Possible sightings include Horned Larks and Eastern Meadowlarks, along with Prairie Warblers, Indigo Buntings, Scarlet Tanager, Clay-colored Sparrows, Eastern Whip-poor-wills, and Yellow and Black-billed Cuckoos. A complete listing can be found on eBird: ebird.org/hotspot/L167477/iconic-birds?yr=curM
We'll be getting an early start, meeting at 6 am at Nedeau Park on Clear Brook Crossing, which is just west of the Plains. Beginning birders are most welcome. We will be happy to introduce you to the joy of birding, if you're new to it. More experienced birders are most welcome as well! Please bring binoculars if you have them, but we’ll have some to lend if you don’t. These walks are provided at no charge and advance registration is not required.
