Cut-Flowers are ready for pickin' now and will go until mid-October!
There's a lot growing at Wilson's this season, and our cut-flower garden is no exception. Picking your own bouquet is one of those experiences that's hard to put into words.
We grow 16 varieties in our cut-flower garden, including Zinnia, Cosmos, Celosia, Buttercup, Dahlia, Amaranthus, Yarrow, Gomphrena, Strawflower, Rudbeckia, and more.
All of our flowers are organic, and we're on a journey to bring sustainable practices onto our produce. Our mission is to build regenerative food systems, transitioning away from harsh pesticides and minimizing our environmental footprint. While we're not fully organic yet due to the realities of the Midwest's harsh growing conditions, our farm team uses a method called Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
What's IPM? It's a science-based approach that prioritizes natural controls for pests and diseases. We closely monitor our crops and weather patterns, using software to make informed decisions. Only when necessary do we use gentler pesticides that still allow beneficial insects to thrive and keep the ecosystem in balance.
*If you're building your own bouquet, don’t miss the wildflower patch underneath the power line! Coreopsis and Cosmos will bloom there, and they make beautiful texture pieces in bouquets!
