Meditation & Metaphor: Ceramic Sculpture & Watercolors by Tracy Ann Holmes
Gallery Show: August 20-September 27, 2026
Free Reception: Thursday, September 24 from 6-8pm
Meditation is the act of being mindfully aware and reaching a calming state. For artist Tracy Ann Holmes, that zen state of observation comes while watercolor painting. It is a balance between control and serendipity that happens when water, pigment, and paper combine. As Tracy takes in her surroundings, she shares her love of color and the life of the Sonoran Desert. These observations lead to deeper questions and to personal studies. Tracy often finds a quote or a tenet of faith and wonders, "how could I portray this concept visually?" A visual metaphor is created when an image/object represents a concept, emotion, or idea beyond its literal appearance. Sketches are made, references gathered, and then Tracy sculpts her artwork in clay. Tracy's use of meditation & metaphor brings balance and understanding into her life and she hopes that her work helps others find the same.
In collaboration with the show, Tracy will be offering a Watercolor Quail art class at the Tucson J on Friday, September 4 from 2-5pm. She will walk you through every step, and you will leave the class with your own 8"x8" finished piece to take home.
Everyone is welcome to join for a free reception celebrating the show on Thursday, September 24 from 6-8pm at the Tucson J, featuring light refreshments and the opportunity to meet Tracy.
