As a new-school country rocker with a reputation for red-dirt swagger and blue-collar grit, Sony Music Nashville artist Corey Kent has spent more than 15 years carving his own path through a tangled wilderness of stumbles and setbacks — and never once coming close to waving a white flag.
A Bixby, Oklahoma native now based in Dallas, the proud husband and father has grown from humble heartland roots into a Platinum-certified, No. 1 hitmaker with more than 750 million career streams. But today, that black bandana he wears isn’t just an accessory — it’s a symbol. It represents resilience, relentless hope, and the refusal to quit.
After early momentum in Nashville stalled during the pandemic — coinciding with the loss of his first publishing deal — Kent moved to Texas and worked on a paving crew to make ends meet. Still, he refused to walk away from music. Honky-tonks and dancehalls on both sides of the Red River became his proving grounds, and the black bandana spirit only grew stronger.
Then came “Wild As Her.” The untamed anthem became a Platinum-certified No. 1 at country radio and the lead single from his major-label debut Blacktop, reigniting his career in a major way. Touring alongside artists like Jason Aldean, Ashley McBryde, and Parker McCollum, Kent quickly became one of country’s most-played new artists of 2023, earning accolades from CMT and Opry NextStage.
His follow-up era proves he’s just getting started. Kent’s sophomore album, Black Bandana, doubles down on themes of grit, integrity, family, and self-belief. Co-writing six of the album’s 10 tracks, Kent blends cinematic electric guitars and heart-pounding drums with a gravel-road rasp, landing somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Brooks & Dunn — classic rock energy delivered with modern country fire.
Standout tracks include the anthemic title cut “Black Bandana,” a rally cry to stay the course when others give up; the smoky, Southern rock-tinged “Ain’t Gonna Lie”; the vulnerable “Never Ready”; and the soaring duet “Now or Never (feat. Lauren Alaina).” The album closes with the reflective acoustic ballad “So Far,” a love letter to his wife and a reminder that the journey is far from over.
For Kent, it’s not about chasing trends — it’s about staying true.
“We all face our own demons. We all face our own setbacks,” he says. “When the going gets tough and everybody quits, you be the one that stays the course.”
