Details:
Join us for a Community Preview of "Stories from the Balcony," a documentary directed by Joanna Hay, on Sunday, June 28, at 3 pm at Speed Cinema. This 46-minute film, twenty years in the making, explores the experience of growing up going to the Grand Theatre in Frankfort, Kentucky, during the Jim Crow era. It tells a poignant story of community, love, and belonging amidst the discrimination endured by the town's Black community, who were segregated to the balcony. The film features prominent voices, including George C. Wolfe and Sheila Mason Burton, with narration by Mary Jackson and a youthful perspective from Katima Smith-Willis. This event is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. A post-screening discussion will follow with Joanna Hay and documentary subjects Bobby Jones, Sheila Mason-Burton, and Katima Smith-Willis. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
