Details:
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of Python programming and machine learning through interactive lessons and an open-ended final project. This class is intended for rising 7th to 9th graders and is suitable for students with no prior coding experience. Students will learn how to write basic Python programs, work with data, and explore how machine learning models can make predictions from real-world datasets. Throughout the course, students will strengthen their computational thinking and problem-solving skills through fun and engaging practice problems. The program concludes with a collaborative final project in which students build and present a simple machine learning model using real-world data. This class is twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays 4:00-5:30pm from June 10th to July 12th. Students are expected to attend all classes. Registering for the first day registers you for the entire series. Please bring your own laptop. We will have some available if needed for in class use. This class is taught by high school volunteers. Schedule: Day 1: Python Setup + Variables and Data Types Day 2: Conditionals and Loops Day 3: Functions and Lists Day 4: Working with Data (Pandas Basics) Day 5: Introduction to Machine Learning Day 6: Data Cleaning and Preparation Day 7: Full Machine Learning Model Walkthrough Day 8: Final Project Introduction + Workday #1 Day 9: Project Workday #2 Day 10: Final Project Presentations
