John Sayles will discuss his film, "Men With Guns" at Rivertown Film. After a life in a city where he has been indifferent to the world around him, a wealthy physician in an unnamed Latin American country visits medical students who he has sent to rural areas to serve indigenous communities. Never having given much thought to the world around him, he is surprised to find himself in a world of conflict, where powerless villagers and educated doctors alike are threatened by “men with guns.” Filmed in Mexico with a cast that included many who had never seen a film. 1997, USA/Mexico, 127 minutes. In Spanish, Italian, English, Nahuati, Maya, Tzotzil, Kuna, rated R for language and some violent images.
