Details:
Join us at Saluda Library for an exciting educational series exploring the natural world of western North Carolina. On March 10, 2026, at 2 PM, learn about the fascinating world of singing insects, including crickets, katydids, and cicadas. Led by Tim Forrest, an Emeritus Professor of Biology at UNC-Asheville, this session will cover the mechanisms of sound production and species-specific songs that will help you identify these insects throughout the changing seasons. Following this, on April 14, 2026, also at 2 PM, Tom Tribble, a long-time member of Blue Ridge Audubon Chapter, will present on the birds of WNC. This discussion will include their ecological value, food needs, migration, and identification tips, accompanied by photos and songs of local birds. Both events are part of the Saluda Library Speaker Series, established in 2024 with support from the Polk County Community Foundation and in collaboration with Conserving Carolina. Registration is required at conservingcarolina.org/calendar. For more information about the library’s offerings, visit www.polklibrary.org.
