2026 Junior Ranger Session #3

The 2026 Junior Ranger Program is an engaging seven-week series designed for children to explore and learn about state parks and outdoor recreation skills while discovering the region's natural and cultural resources. Each session, running from 10 AM to noon on consecutive Fridays, will feature a different theme and activity led by DCR Park Interpreters. Participants will partake in hikes, nature crafts, wildlife observation, and more.

One of the sessions, "Natural Bridge Rocks!" on July 24th at Natural Bridge State Park, invites children to investigate the geological forces behind the famed marble bridge and learn about rock types, fossils, and ancient sea creatures that contribute to the park’s unique landforms. Other sessions include exploring navigation and native wildlife at Mount Greylock, studying glacial rock formations at Balance Rock State Park, and investigating aquatic habitats at Savoy State Forest.

The program emphasizes environmental stewardship and is supervised by state park staff. Parents or guardians are required to participate, and children should wear appropriate clothing and bring snacks, water, and sunscreen. For more information or directions, contact Mike Whalen at (413) 499-4262.
