Unearth a Story: An Adult Studio Series Inspired by Prehistory:Prehistoric Greens: Fern Studies in Watercolor Pencil Explore the rich possibilities of watercolor pencil; a versatile medium that offers the best of both worlds- the precision of drawing combined with the fluidity of watercolor when activated with water. Our subject is the beauty of ferns- plants we can trace back to prehistoric landscapes. Their feather-like structure provides the perfect framework for studying brush control, repetition, and tonal variation in a deliberate, approachable way. Well explore how dry mark-making and controlled washes work together to model form. No prerequisite skills required- all are welcome. This workshop features 2 demonstrations: review of the benefits of using watercolor pencil, demonstration on sketching to create a dynamic composition, applying color with the pencils review of how to active the pencil with water, best practices in holding the brush. Tips and tricks for painting. Going back into your painting with more pencil to correct or enhance areas About the presenter:Jenny Santa Maria is a multifaceted talent as a teaching artist, art coach, and exhibiting artist from Farmingdale, NJ. Her work has garnered recognition in various esteemed publications, includingJersey Shore MagazineandThe Wall Street Journal. Throughout her extensive career, Jenny has touched the lives of a wide-ranging audience, both within traditional classroom settings and beyond. After a decade of teaching, she drew on her experience in special education to become an art coach, empowering individuals who struggle with perfectionism, self-doubt, and anxiety to see their creative potential. Her dedication to creative empowerment has led her to work in diverse environments, from retreat centers and libraries to art museums and galleries nationwide.
