Presentation by Mike Norris, Ph. D. This years Summer Reading theme is Unearth a Story - discover the stories of ancient civilizations and creature through reading this summer! Through works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, explore 7,500 years of the cultural history of peoples scattered overthree million square miles of the Middle East, from present-dayTurkey to India, and from Armenia to Saudi Arabia. The core civilization wasinMesopotamia, the fertile land between the Tigris andtheEuphrates Rivers of modern-day Iraq. From this landcame stories of Noahs Great Flood, the unconquerable hero Gilgamesh, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, as well as the modern discovery of the Great Death Pit of Ur, filled with 74 bodies and priceless artifacts. About the presenter:Mike got his BA in classics from the University of California at San Diego and his MA in classics and Ph. D. in art history at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He spent twenty years at the Cloisters Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and has lectured on trips all over the world. He lives in Teaneck, New Jersey.
