Backyard Club is a seasonal outdoor program that meets on select Saturdays forone hour. Each session offers hands-on exploration such as hiking on our naturetrail, catching and identifying insects, investigating freshwater life, and encouragingcuriosity about the world right outside our doors.

June 13: Meadow Micro-Safari: Insects Up Close
Mid-June is the best time of year to find all kinds of cool bugs out in the meadow! Let’s grab some containers and go on a bug hunt, and learn how to catch and identify bugs at home!
July 18: Stream Science: Freshwater Life in Action
Let’s take a short hike down to the stream behind the museum and investigate some of our local freshwater wildlife to better appreciate the water that only covers 1% of the world’s surface, yet sustains so many species!
August 29: Fungi!
In recognition of Fungi Month at the museum, we’re going on a nature hike in search of all the cool fungus growing among us!
September 26
The seasons are changing once again as summer turns to fall, and the plants and animals outside change their patterns as well. Let’s go explore and compare how the nature trails looked in the spring to the present time.
October 10
It’s Mistaken Identity month at the museum, and what better way to dive in than by going on an outdoor adventure in search of plant, animal, and fungal lookalikes, seasonal oddities, and if we’re lucky, even a cryptid or two?
