Details:
Get ready for summer by sewing up your own pair of shorts! You will leave this class with a pair of comfy, elastic waist shorts and the know-how to use the same technique to make pants. These shorts are designed by the teacher for any gender and are based on your hip measurement. We’ll learn to use a technique called low or zero-waste pattern making. Low-waste pattern making is a technique to minimize the amount of odd-shaped, hard to use scraps. Low waste leaves you with more rectangular scraps for reuse on other projects. You will gain sewing knowledge and skills and by the end of the series you will have a fun new pair of shorts, and you can say “I Made It”!
In this class, you’ll learn:
- How to draft a low or zero-waste shorts pattern
- Garments construction 101 from how to properly cut your fabric on the fold to sewing straight and curved seams.
- How to sew patch pockets
- How to sew an elastic waistband
- Understanding how a sewing machine works and what all the knobs do.
- How to use an overcasting foot to finish seams
- Hand tools including Fabric Scissors, Rotary Cutters, cutting Mats, Pins, Fabric pens, Thread, and Needles will be provided for you to use in the class.
- You will leave this series with your custom-made pair of shorts and all the newly gained knowledge to tackle your next sewing project with confidence.
