Onestraw is a collective — centrally operated by Carl Ritger, Matthew Sage, and Andrew Weathers — that creates event programming, gatherings, and happenings up and down the Front Range corridor. In the past year, Onestraw has produced events with a wide array of artists from around the nation and the globe, across genres but largely experimental, avant-garde, jazz and free jazz, and electronic adjacent interests. Onestraw is an effort in approaching programming as an ecological practice, where arts are part of an ecosystem. Artists performing: Matt Robidoux Ritger & Sage Matt Robidoux’s The Spiral Worker Featuring David Castillo, Emmanuel B Moreno, and Sarah Christiansen The spiral worker operates as a connector in a rhizome-like network, gathering and transferring material (corn synth, corn silk, corn husk) , unlike tree-like structures that impose order. spiral worker features an expanded corn synth system (Kinetically Operated Randomness Network) built around two touch-controlled aluminum corn ears. This instrument draws from my collaboration with disability communities through Pauline Oliveros’ AUMI project. The corn synth’s design references the Buchla 158 synthesizer from the 1963 San Francisco Tape Music Center, creating a hybrid modular environment. Through spiral work, the piece transforms this system into a sculptural, world-building experience involving multiple performers on electronics, percussion, flute, and saxophone. All participants—performers, audience members, and conceptual frameworks—function as interconnected spiral workers within this non-hierarchy. Ritger & Sage Carl Ritger is a multi-instrumentalist and improviser based in the Denver area. His work explores sonic environments and entropic resonance. Matt Sage lives on the Front Range; his work often enmeshes the pastoral and the electronic to create a hybrid atmospheric third thing. Together, they help operate the Onestraw collective. Their collaborative performances explore corrupted historical texts and spoken word digitally woven between electroacoustic textures and glimmers of melody. This program is supported by Denver Arts & Venues through the DENVER CREATES Fund.
