Disability Pride is a movement about: – Celebrating diversity in bodies, minds, and ways of experiencing the world. – Recognizing disability as an identity and culture. – Honoring the contributions of people with disabilities. – Understanding disability history and lived experiences. – Recognizing ongoing barriers, stigmas, and ableism._Advocating for equity, inclusion, and accessibility. – Building a sense of belonging and community. This year, we are excited to feature Deaf artist Jaye Jones in a hands-on workshop to create a collective art piece. Participants will use acrylic markers on small prepared canvas pieces. The individual canvas pieces will be sewn together into one painting. Jaye is interested in exploring how separate voices can form a shared visual story. American Sign Language interpreters will be available. At 12:15 p.m., enjoy a 15-minute performance on the forecourt by singer, songwriter, and musician Melissa Baehr. Melissa is originally from northeastern Pennsylvania. She came to Colorado in 2017 for training at the Colorado Center for the Blind. From an early age, she loved to sing. She learned to play the guitar at the age of 15 and started writing her own songs shortly after. Melissa’s musical style is mostly Indie folk rock/ Americana. She’s been playing mellow acoustic guitar music for yoga classes at Guided by Humanity since 2021. Music calms the soul, so in her downtime, Melissa loves listening to live music, spending time with friends, and being in nature’s soundscape. @melissa_rae_sing Community partners serving communities with disabilities will host information tables where you can learn about programs, services, and helpful resources.
