Details:
The Central Library is hosting two exciting events that celebrate community culture and creativity.
First, **“A Photobook Gallery: The Ensley Childhood Project”** at the First Floor Gallery presents a non-linear timeline of the historic Ensley neighborhood through homemade family photos, archived videos, and written narratives. This exhibition aims to provide insight into the history and culture of the Ensley community, focusing on the Black childhood experience. A reception featuring the subjects of the photographs and project curator Timothy Quarshie will take place on Friday, May 15, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Fourth Floor Gallery, supported by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
Additionally, the Wylam Branch Library invites children and tweens to enjoy **“Magic, Mayhem & Mind-Blowing Fun with Magician Brandon Herring,”** an interactive family magic show that combines humor and audience participation with amazing tricks, including card tricks and mind-reading. Designed for all ages, this performance aims to ignite imagination and emphasizes the storytelling aspect of community.
Both events are free of registration and cater to a diverse audience, offering delightful opportunities for families to engage with art and entertainment.
