Details:
Join us for the Frankfort Heritage Lecture Series: “Lessons from The Great Dissenter,” featuring Peter S. Canellos, managing editor at POLITICO and author of *The Great Dissenter: The Story of John Marshall Harlan, America's Judicial Hero*. John Marshall Harlan was a significant political figure in Kentucky during the Civil War, known for his role in keeping the state loyal to the Union and leading an 800-man regiment. Appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1877, he earned the title "the Great Dissenter" by fiercely defending the rights of Black citizens and opposing his colleagues' decisions that undermined the fight against income inequality during the Gilded Age. Harlan's legacy as a revered legal figure continues to evoke admiration across the political spectrum. Canellos, an award-winning journalist and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, will explore Harlan's remarkable ability to identify justice where many of his peers failed. Programs may be photographed or videotaped for promotional purposes. Please register at www.pspl.org/event/fhls-canellos.
