Details:
The Arboretum presents a dual summer exhibit featuring "Anishinaabeg Gitigaan: The Original People's Garden" and "Omé-Na-Ala: Igbo Traditional Farm," celebrating the rich agricultural traditions of Indigenous cultures. The Original People’s Garden highlights plants cherished by the Ojibwe people from the Woodlands and Great Lakes regions, co-curated by Naawakweose, who shares meaningful plant stories as an Ojibwe seed keeper. The Igbo Traditional Farm, co-curated by Chidi Chidozie, showcases sacred plants central to the Igbo culture of Nigeria through a living exhibit that includes a scaled-down Igbo village. Complemented by the Hidatsa Earth Lodge Agriculture exhibit, these showcases amplify the voices of historically overlooked communities and emphasize the deep connection between culture and nature through plant-based storytelling, running through the harvest season.
