Details:
Join the "Battle Jacket: Fabric Collage" workshop, part of the "Wear Your Story: A Battle Jacket Workshop Series" with the Salvation Artists Collective at Reuse Commons Lake City (RCLC). In this engaging class, participants will transform fabric scraps into custom appliqués that can be added to garments. You'll learn techniques for cutting, layering, and attaching fabric to create unique symbols, images, and decorative elements, while building one or more custom patches ready for your personalized battle jacket.
Materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own inspiration images and special fabric scraps. This workshop is part of a five-part series focused on low-cost textile arts and creative repair techniques, where participants will develop practical skills and a wearable piece of art that reflects their values and experiences. No prior experience is necessary, and supplies such as needles, thread, fabric markers, and more will be available.
Additional classes in the series include block printing, decorative repair, painted fabric art, and assembling the jacket, all aimed at empowering participants to express their stories through creative fabric work. The series is led by instructor Katie McFarland, a passionate advocate for upcycling and visible mending.
Accessibility features are in place to ensure everyone can participate, and a sliding scale for class fees is available to accommodate various income levels. For further information about class details and accessibility requests, contact info@seattlereconomy.org.
