Details:
The Horticulture Committee of Austin County will be selling bare-root strawberry plants to help raise funds for scholarships. Since 2023, the Horticulture Committee of Austin County has supported 9 youth with $8,500 in scholarships to graduating seniors and college students who were past graduates from an Austin County school majoring in Horticulture or a related field.
Strawberry plants will be bare-root and in bundles of five (5). There will be 2 different varieties offered, Ruby June and Camarosa; both are zoned for this area. Camarosa are known for being heavy-yielding and for large berries and ripening in spring. Ruby June is known for growing more densely; berries are held higher off the ground, improving airflow around the plants, and ripening in June.
The committee is offering a pre-sale from August 15th to September 30th for $9 per bundle of 5. After pre-sale, bundles will increase to $10 per bundle of 5. Order forms should be submitted to the Austin County Extension Office located at 800 E Wendt St, Bellville. Strawberries will arrive mid-to-late October, and all pre-order customers will be notified when they arrive. Pickup will be at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Pavilion, 936 S Front St., Bellville.
