Details:
Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution is a new exhibit at Savannah History Museum featuring 17 newly restored Revolutionary War-era cannons and other artifacts recovered from the Savannah River in 2021-22 near Old Fort Jackson after being in the river for more than two centuries.
The exhibit opened Fourth of July weekend in celebration of America's 250th anniversary.
Starting July 3, Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution will be open during normal museum hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week.
In addition to the 17 newly restored cannons, two cannons displayed in their original found condition, three anchor fragments, and other incredible objects will be displayed.
Spanning approximately 3,000 square feet, this landmark exhibit will present narratives more reflective of diverse participation in the Revolution, highlight Georgia’s role in the movement, and expand on naval stories of the region.
This project has been a community effort. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from corporations, heritage organizations, and individuals.
Savannah History Museum is across the street from Battlefield Memorial Park, which commemorates the Battle of Savannah in 1779, one of the bloodiest and costliest engagements of the American Revolutionary War.
