The Santa Maria Speedway, established in 1964 by Doug Fort, has been a cornerstone of local racing, earning accolades like "Best Short Track Operation West of the Mississippi." After Doug's passing in 1999, the track faced ownership changes and challenges, including the COVID shutdown and urban encroachment, which threatened its future. In late 2024, local entrepreneur Pat Cusack revitalized the speedway, committing to infrastructure improvements while preserving its unique charm. The 2025 season promises an exciting lineup, welcoming back long-time fans and captivating new audiences with diverse racing events.
