The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a new invasive pest treatment workshop on the New World screwworm and pasture mealybug on July 17 in Calliham. The cost to attend is $20, which includes lunch, and registration is available online. Attendees will receive a free larvae collection kit. Topics and speakers include: Moving livestock and deer within New World screwworm zones — T. R. Lansford, DVM, Texas Animal Health Commission deputy executive director and assistant state veterinarian. All things mealybug — Stephen Biles, AgriLife Extension agent for integrated pest management, Texas A&M Department of Entomology. New World screwworm management options for wildlife — Matt Reidy, senior wildlife biologist, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, two integrated pest management and one laws and regulations — will be available.
