Details:
Join us for the "Open Studio: Rubber and Felt Sculpture" workshop at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (UMFA), where you can explore your artistic potential alongside fellow artists in Salt Lake City. Inspired by Chakaia Booker's impactful work "Discarded Memories," this workshop invites you to investigate the themes of repurposing and memory through art. Booker's sculptures, crafted from discarded tires, evoke African textile patterns while critiquing modern issues like consumer culture and environmental concerns. Participants will engage with the galleries and then create their own standing sculpture using rubber, felt, and wood, reflecting on the transformative nature of materials. All materials are provided, and this session is open to adults 18 and older, welcoming all levels of experience. Feel free to bring your sketchbook or current projects; while RSVP is encouraged, it is not required.
