Details:
Join us for a woodworking class, "Chopsticks & Hair Sticks," hosted by Molten Makerspace, where you can reconnect with traditional craftsmanship. Open to students ages 16 and up, and those ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult (no charge). In this beginner-friendly session, you’ll learn to use a hand-held wood plane and a wooden jig block system to create your own eco-friendly chopsticks or artistic hair sticks, producing two pairs to take home.
Throughout the class, you’ll master essential woodcraft techniques such as using a hand plane, sanding for a polished finish, and applying a food-safe finish. Please note that all participants must wear closed-toed shoes and tie back long hair; adherence to the dress code is mandatory for participation. After crafting, your sticks will need to soak in mineral oil overnight, with pickup available up to a week later. Each participant will receive care instructions, a small square of sandpaper, and a mini bottle of mineral oil to help maintain their wooden utensils, which are not dishwasher safe.
This workshop, led by instructor Tannis Boyajian, costs $40 for TAG members (Mentor level and above) and $50 for nonmembers. Enjoy an enriching experience while creating functional art!
