Join CMC’s Wilderness Emergency Medicine team for an intensive Wilderness First Responder certification course. The course prepares guides, outdoor educators, search and rescue professionals, and backcountry recreationalists to provide effective care in remote environments. All field sessions take place at the Colorado Mountain College Breckenridge campus.
The program strengthens the skills and mindset needed for effective medical care in remote settings. Core topics include wilderness medical protocols, patient assessment, trauma and medical considerations, environmental interventions, prolonged field care, improvised medicine, wilderness evacuation, and communication in the backcountry.
CMC is an affiliate of the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS). This course follows the Clinical Practice Guidelines of the WMS along with the Wilderness First Responder protocols established by the Wilderness Medical Education Collaborative.
Location: Colorado Mountain College, Breckenridge
Field Dates: September 12-13 (Sat–Sun) and September 18-20 (Fri–Sun)
Times: All days 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except on Saturday 19th Noon-9pm included night scenarios!
Online Learning: Twenty-five hours of self-paced content must be completed before the field sessions.
