**Exhibit: Caralyn B. Shelton, The Nation’s First Female Governor**
This changing exhibit celebrates Caralyn B. Shelton, recognized as the first female acting governor in the United States. Serving as Oregon’s Governor for three days in 1909, during the transition between George E. Chamberlain and Frank W. Benson, she took office three years before Oregon women gained the right to vote. Shelton's brief tenure showcased a woman's ability to hold the highest state office, yet her remarkable story remains largely unknown today. The exhibit will feature artifacts from the Caralyn B. Shelton Collection at the Willamette Heritage Center, marking their first public display. Visitors can explore Shelton's legacy and the significance of her time in office during museum hours, Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with admission included in the regular museum fee. Preview the digital exhibit for more insights into her incredible contributions and impact.
