A Native American Flute (NAF) Circle is a gathering of NAF enthusiasts to play and listen to the amazing and healing music created by the Native American style flutes. The circle is open to the public. It is attended by players of the flutes at any level of experience, as well as drums, rattles, voice, and various other instruments. Everyone is encouraged to play, contribute with accompaniments, or to simply listen and enjoy. NAF circles are very supportive place to learn to play and to be inspired to grow your abilities.
Our Flute Circle - as yet unnamed - will be meeting in the Borland classroom on the first Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 4 pm with some light refreshments.
LEARNING TIME: 1 pm to 2 pm The first hour of the flute circle will be focused on some aspect of learning about NAF. If you have never played before or are a novice, this is a great opportunity to learn how to play and explore NAFs. We have loaner flutes, if you do not yet own one and would like to try it out. The topics will run the gamut from how to start, how to pick a flute, flute construction and maintenance, how to play traditional songs, how to improvise, playing with others, playing with other instruments, introducing different NAF artists and styles, etc.
CIRCLE TIME: 2 pm to 4 pm After the learning session, we will continue with a traditional flute circle, where folks will share their music for all to enjoy.
We hope you will join us and that you will pass this information on to others who might be interested in the Native American Flute.
