the purpose of this course is to educate law enforcement officers about issues pertaining to serving as a mental health officer. the course covers the legal aspects of mental health commitments, liability issues, mental disorders, and mental disabilities. other areas covered include:indicators of mental illness;understanding mental illness;documenting the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work with the mentally ill, their families, and the mental health system; andintervention strategies for addressing both low- and high-risk situations.emergency detention ordersthis course will serve as part of the standards necessary for certification as a mental health officer by tcole.please note:participants must pass a proficiency exam at the end of the course with a score of 80 or higher.required material: students are required to bring apen, paper, and a laptop or tablet.requirements for mho certification course:the student must have taken:· de-escalation (tcole course #1849)· crisis intervention training (tcole course #1850) or mental health for jailers (tcole course #4900) · equivalents for de-escalation and crisis intervention training include basic peace officer course (tcole course #1000667, #1000696, #1000720)
