Pre-Covid, our monthly meetings were a chance for anyone interested in growing orchids to meet, exchange ideas, and learn. Each month some of our members bring blooming orchids from their gardens for display and to participate in a friendly and informal judging. Monthly meetings include expert guest speakers and a plant opportunity table. Orchid culture demonstrations are given by experts several times a year. In March we hold our annual orchid auction where orchids from many well-known vendors and from our member's gardens are auctioned to the highest bidder. Once the green light is given by our landlord, we will be meeting again in person. We are still meeting monthly via Zoom meetings at our regular time, the second Monday of the month at 7pm. We still have expert speakers on a wide range of topics, and we also have raffle and auction opportunities as well. We have a governing Board and Directors who meet to set policy. Anyone in the Society is welcome to attend the meetings and to volunteer on the Board. We need volunteers in all kinds of areas so that our Society runs smoothly. LBAOS also presents a scholarship each year to a student pursuing a future career in horticulture from a local college. There is a spin off group called Sunday Amateurs that is run by one of our members. That group meets the third Sunday of the month at a member's home and all are welcome. The information is always in the monthly newsletter posted on our FB pages. They are meeting in person as it is an outside meeting during Covid. As an LBAOS member, you will receive a monthly newsletter via email that has photos of members plants, information on seasonal growing tips, cultural information on a wide range of topics, and webinar information from the American Orchid Society (AOS).
