Chess Night

Thursdays | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Drop-in anytime! All ages and experiences are welcome. Join us for Chess Night at Galaxy Game Cafe! This night is your weekly chance to connect over the classic game of strategy. Play casual games, meet new people, and if you want to learn or improve, then participate in our Chess Game Academy the same night! The Game Academy is led by our volunteer chess instructor, Harrison. Expect a beginner lesson, followed by open play, light coaching, friendly challenges, and a King of the Hill table later in the evening. View the full schedule below! What we’ll cover: - How the pieces move - How check and checkmate work - Simple opening principles - Short guided games to get you comfortable 7:00–9:00 PM — Open Chess Night A relaxed, community-focused chess evening. Activities include: - Casual free play – Paired by rating - Friendly challenges – Mate in 1, Best Next Move - Help for beginners - Light coaching throughout the night - “King of the Hill” table at 7:30 PM About the Chess Instructor: I’m Harrison, and I’ve spent years studying strategy, focus, and leadership both in and out of the game. Chess has always been a place of calm and connection for me, and I’m excited to bring that energy into our community. My teaching style is hands-on, patient, and beginner-friendly — I want every player, whether it’s your first game or your hundredth, to feel supported, confident, and welcome at the table.
