Details:
Turtle Island is a powerful, outdoor production that brings to life the foundational Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Creation Story through a vibrant fusion of large-scale inflatable, aerial puppetry, choreography, and community engagement. This multi-sensory cultural experience was created by Plasticiens Volants (France) under the artistic direction of artist and culture worker G. Peter Jemison (Seneca, Heron Clan) with choreography and performance by Skywoman Iroquois Dance Theater led by Bill Crouse, Sr. (Seneca, Hawk Clan). Turtle Island celebrates the Haudenosaunee Creation Story, inviting audiences to witness the birth of the world on the back of a turtle, a profound and universal Haudenosaunee belief that carries resilience, harmony, and invisible connections between all living beings. Earth was born on the back of a Turtle which must be carried as much as it carries us, in order to continue its journey.
