Join our exciting, 1-hour program for kids ages 6–11! Big STEAMers is a program that focuses on the five areas of STEAM; science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, all geared toward elementary-aged kids. Get ready to experiment, explore, and make some surprising discoveries at the Mercer County Library’s West Windsor Branch. This week's topic: Color Lab: Painting with Nature's Palette!
Young artists and scientists ages 6–11 will dive into the vibrant world of natural pigments as they discover how everyday foods can become brilliant watercolors. Using turmeric, red cabbage, beets, and other plant-based materials, kids will experiment with extracting dyes, observe surprising color changes, and learn how chemistry shapes the hues we see. After mixing their own handmade paints, participants will create a mini artwork to take home — a perfect blend of science, creativity, and colorful discovery. Sponsored by the Friends of the West Windsor Library.
Registration is required prior to the event. Walk-ins are welcome as long as space and supplies are available. We recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before the program starts. If you have not arrived by the start of the program, we may give your spot to someone who is waiting. We may not be able to accommodate late arrivals. Please cancel if you are unable to attend so that your spot may be given to another. We appreciate your cooperation so we may offer a smoother flow of activities to the entire group.
