STATIONS OF THE ELEVATED

Details:

IN CINEMA – Maysles Documentary CenterTuesday, June 30th at 7:00PM Sacred Fire Gospel, Resistance and Black Liberation Manny Kirchheimer, 1981, 45 min. There are no sermons in Stations of the Elevated, yet Manny Kirchheimer’s lyrical portrait of New York’s elevated trains and graffiti-covered subway cars unfolds like a meditation. Its title evokes the Stations of the Cross, suggesting that holiness may be found not only in churches but in the overlooked corners of everyday life. Set to the music of Charles Mingus and Aretha Franklin, the film celebrates the creative spirit of communities too often dismissed or ignored. Like stained glass for the city streets, these fleeting murals testify to humanity’s desire to be seen, remembered, and transformed. For Sacred Fire, Stations of the Elevated reminds us that the sacred is never far away. As Psalm 118 tells us, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” Sometimes grace comes rumbling overhead. $15 General Admission / $7 Reduced Price
