Details:
This hilarious 1957 film comedy focuses on the madcap life of an eccentric New Yorker (Rosalind Russell), whose rowdy life is disrupted when she becomes the guardian of her deceased brother's son, Patrick Dennis. Upon losing her wealth during the Depression, she embarks on a series of hopelessly failed jobs in order to retain her guardianship of young Patrick: a clumsy extra performer in her best friend Vera's (Coral Brown) off-Broadway play, a very confused telephone operator, and finally, an extremely befuddled sales clerk at the New York Macy's department store. It is at that store that she encounters and eventually weds a wealthy widowed Southern plantation owner (played by Forest Tucker) Through all her ups and downs during a 20-year span, she retains her unwavering devotion to Patrick, her positive attitude and her ribald sense of humor.
The film retained most of the players featured in the Tony® award-winning Broadway hit. At Oscar® time in 1958, the hugely popular film garnered six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress (Russell). A true comedy gem.
