The Friends of the Ridgecrest Branch Library (FRBL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Ridgecrest branch of the Kern County Library system. Our primary objectives are to raise funds and raise awareness for the library and its services.
To achieve these goals, we have implemented several initiatives. Firstly, we host an ongoing used book sale within the library, where we sell a wide range of books, including used paperbacks, hardbacks, special sets, collections, and magazines. Secondly, we have recently opened a store called “Books & More” on the library premises, where we sell a variety of books, art, and thrift shop items.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are eligible to accept donations from individuals and charitable organizations. The majority of our donations consist of books from individuals, but we also receive grants and donations from various sources.
The funds we receive are exclusively utilized to benefit the library. The FRBL funds provide long-term funding for essential materials, such as books, CDs, magazines, and other educational resources, as well as programs, including the children’s summer reading program.
Our activities encompass a range of initiatives, including:
- Establishing and maintaining a network of individuals and organizations interested in libraries and their associated services.
- Encouraging donations to support the Friends of the Ridgecrest Branch Library’s mission, including both cash donations and donations of books, magazines, and other materials.
- Participating in fund-raising activities that are deemed worthwhile by the Board of Directors and the membership.
- Stimulating community interest and support for the Friends of the Ridgecrest Branch Library and its activities through media releases and other public relations initiatives.
- Maintaining and operating the ongoing book sale by receiving and organizing donations, stocking the sales shelves located within the library with used paperbacks, hardbacks, special sets, collections, and magazines.
- Assisting in presenting children’s reading programs, preparing and arranging materials, reading aloud to young patrons, participating in the book mending program, and volunteering at fundraising activities throughout the year.
While many of the Little Free Libraries in Ridgecrest are not affiliated with the Friends of the Ridgecrest Branch Library, we strongly encourage their use and support.
