Details:
Classic Movie Night’s next film in it series, Super Summer Cinema at the Historic USO Building, is a 2019 American coming-of-age period drama film written and directed by Greta Gerwig (director of the smash hit, Barbie). It is the fourth major Hollywood film adaptation of the 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott. It chronicles the lives of the March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—in Concord, Massachusetts, during the 19th century. It stars an ensemble cast consisting of Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson , Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, James Norton, Louis Garrel, and Chris Cooper. In this latest adaptation, the writing of the novel itself, by the character of Jo, is the focus of the screenplay. Through many detailed flashbacks (careful attention must be paid, as these occur often) the story progresses towards final publication of Jo’s novel, as the March’s family’s lives age and progress. A very different, but quite engrossing take on the original novel, the film was very popular with critics and audiences, alike. But then, how could it miss? All the filmed versions were wildly popular!
