Our current film series, Super Summer Cinema continues on Wednesday, July 16 with the acclaimed drama that really hit close to home (the world stage) in its intriguing subject matter. The 2024 political thriller film directed by Edward Berger and written by Peter Straughan, is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Robert Harris. The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini. In the film, Cardinal Thomas Lawrence (Fiennes) organizes a conclave to elect the next pope to succeed the current pope who has died of a heart attack, and finds himself investigating secrets and scandals about the major candidates. A superbly-acted drama with many surprising twists and turns, is a beautifully assembled production that resonated with a wide audience, mainly due to its real-life timeliness. The whole procedure of the conclave is utterly fascinating. Not to be missed!
