Classic Movie Night at the Historic USO Building continues its series honoring the most famous film directors of all time, “Directed by…” During the month of May, the series presents two very curious offerings. First off, on Wednesday, May 7 at 7:15 pm, the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock brings us a 1951 thriller that was, until his 1960 “Psycho,” his most frightening motion picture. Farley Granger portrays a well-known professional tennis player, Guy Haines, who, by chance on a speeding train, strikes up a conversation with a slimy character named Bruno Antony (Robert Walker). The two’s chat drifts into Bruno’s grizzly, fanciful suggestion that each of them kill the other’s enemy. Bruno would love for Guy to dispatch his (Bruno’s) father in exchange for him killing Guy’s nasty, threatening (as reported by the tabloids) ex-fiancé. Guy quickly shrugs the lunatic off, but Bruno is not to be ignored! He follows Guy from tennis court to tennis court with threat after threat, culminating into an astonishingly shocking climax that has disturbed movie goers for many years! Truly unforgettable movie-making from Hitchcock, whose own daughter, Patricia, turns in a very accomplished supporting performance. For the titles of all our films, check out our Events Board located just outside the front door of the Historic USO Building, or stop by the Bookstore for a film schedule. The Snack Bar and Bookstore open at 6:15, with classic cartoons screening until 7:15 movie time. As always, admission to the movies is a much-appreciated $3 donation.
