Details:
The Texas America250 and The Art of Soccer celebrations are two vibrant events highlighting Texas's rich heritage and its role in the nation's history, as well as its upcoming participation in the global sports arena.
As the nation observes 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Texas America250 initiative, presented by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), showcases Texas's unique contributions to America’s legacy. This traveling exhibit features icons of Texan culture, including cowboys and astronauts, and invites participants of all ages to join a statewide Reading Challenge. Celebrations also reflect on significant milestones in Texas history, such as the Texas Centennial and the Texas Sesquicentennial.
In tandem, the Houston Public Library is celebrating the FIFA World Cup 2026™ by launching The Art of Soccer exhibit, which features beautifully decorated 36-inch soccer balls created by local artists. This initiative, supported by the Harris County–Houston Sports Authority, not only emphasizes Houston's role as a host city for the World Cup but also raises funds for community-focused programs aimed at providing soccer access to underserved youth and promoting sustainability and human rights.
