Ski jumping was first introduced to America from Norway in 1883 by Torjus and Mikkel Hemmestvedt. During the early 1900's there was a group of Norwegian ski jumpers from Red Wing. They were all among the first of their generation to be born in America. They were all Aurora Ski Club members, ski jumps were being built all over Red Wing. The best jumpers also competed all over the upper mid west and would often finish in the top ten. Sometimes even when competing among the revered early American ski jumpers from Ishpeming, Michigan, another great birthplace of the sport. The best ski jumpers from the Aurora Ski Club came to be known as the "All Americans" from Red Wing.
